Blog Post #9: Internship Reflection

As I write this blog post, I have yet to hear the final decision regarding my potential return offer, and honestly, I’m not sure what to expect. This past week has been a rollercoaster of emotions: a sense of relief that the pressure of project deadlines is behind me, and genuine happiness as I look back on the experiences that shaped my summer. This internship has been a testament to my personal and professional growth. Living in a part of the country I had never visited before was a challenge in itself, and adapting to that environment taught me a lot about independence and resilience. On the job, I gained valuable product knowledge, sharpened my problem-solving abilities, and collaborated with diverse teams across the firm. Most importantly, I’ve come to realize that the financial services industry—particularly risk management—is exactly where I want to build my career. I’m proud to say I’ve achieved every goal I set for myself this summer.

Blog Post #1: Career and Self Development through my 1st Week in NYC

  Career and Self-Development through my 1st Week in NYC To begin my first blog post, I’d like to start by saying that I don't start my internship until next Monday, June 2nd, but this doesn't mean that my first week of experiences in New York hasn't aligned with the first career readiness competency of career and self-development. I chose to move into my New York apartment a week in advance to give myself time to adjust to being in a new environment alone. I’ve spent this week walking all throughout the city and going on many different “quests,” including visiting the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art), running along the East Side Highway, and even getting my first New York Yankees hat. I feel that challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone has done wonders for my development as a person.  Blog Post #8: Technology Something that is very interesting in the financial services industry is the slow inclusion of generative AI additions to existing processes. I’m lucky to say that I am at Morgan Stanley while they are rolling out a fleet of AI tools for employees to use, which include an internal Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI initiatives, among other things. The reasoning behind the hesitance of firms to embrace this new technology is that a lot of the information that flows throughout these banks is not only confidential anywhere outside of the building, but some information is material non-public information, meaning that it cannot leave a certain floor. There is also an element of the financial services industry that is risky to include AI within, which is the client engagement activities.
